Nights: Gourmet District

NIGHTS: GOURMET DISTRICT

In this so-called "upper district" of the city, you will find quality bars, restaurants and shops. This area, which also extends to Valentín Masip Street, is home to a wide range of shops, particularly stores selling clothes and accessories. Some of Oviedo's finest restaurants - classic or nouvelle cuisine - as well as numerous bars and cafés can also be found in this area. If it is time for your evening meal, you have a choice to make. You are in the “Gourmet District”, an initiative of the local restaurant association in the America Square area. Incidentally, the fountain in that Square is where sports triumphs are celebrated in Oviedo, especially football celebrations. If you coincide with any of these events, you will find it surrounded by a crowd and the water will be dyed blue.

A manor surrounded by gardens

Next to América Square and surrounded by gardens is “Villa Magdalena The building is, together with another one located in La Lila Street and transformed into a cybercentre, one of the few mansions from the early 1900s that remain in the city centre. It was built based on a project attributed to Juan Miguel de la Guardia as a building of “hotel” type homes around 1900, following French models. Since its renovation in 1999, it has housed the collection of books and works of art from the Tamés Legacy and what used to be the greenhouse is now a reading room.
