Municipal support

The support that the Oviedo City Council provides to congresses and events includes aid to help promote the events and, above all, to promote Oviedo and Asturias among the attendees.

There is a series of subsidies that are publicly announced every year and funded from the municipal budget.

In addition, the City Council pays for guided tours by officially approved guides that are free for the organisers of the congress.

To save money on printing contracts and the useless consumption of paper, the Oviedo City Council does not provide tourist brochures for congress welcome packs. Instead, it offers an enhanced service with a Tourist Information Point where any person attending the congress can collect brochures that are of interest to them, with the assistance of qualified personnel, on visits of interest and on any other practical issue that may arise.

One of the services that is most highly appreciated is the performance of the City of Oviedo Royal Bagpipe Band (Real Banda de Gaitas Ciudad de Oviedo), which provide brief performances at the opening, closing, and social ceremonies of the congress.

Ample hotel capacity

Oviedo has a large hotel capacity, with up to 5,405 beds in all types of establishments of any category: historical buildings and modern constructions, traditional establishments or in "boutique" format; most are in the city centre or the old quarter, although there are also hotels in other towns within the municipality. The higher category hotels have facilities for meetings. When it comes to congresses, the figure that counts is not the number of seats but the number of rooms. Oviedo has a total of 2,733 rooms, of which 2,315 are in 5, 4 and 3 star hotels, which are the most widely used in MICE tourism.
