In every street and on time

It has been estimated that there is 1 hospitality establishment for every 120 inhabitants. Therefore, visitors will have quite a choice. Although there are restaurants and bars throughout the city centre and also plenty in the countryside, there are certain areas where the concentration of these establishments is greater, which are also the areas tourists tend to visit.

The most popular are:

These establishments usually open at about 08:00/08:30 in the morning and some open in the evening until about 22:00 or 22:30 (although the kitchens may have closed earlier). Restaurants do not open in the morning. On Friday and Saturday and during holiday periods, opening hours are more flexible. On Sunday nights, many establishments, especially restaurants, close.

Foreigners should remember that, in Oviedo, as in most of Spain, meals are not served at the same times as in Europe, but later: lunch, or the midday meal, is actually served after 2 pm (14:00) and dinner is hardly ever before 9 pm (21:00). At any other time, you can always order tapas or skewers. It is quite common to eat these at around midday or mid-afternoon and many people like to order a cup of coffee and a skewer or pastries. In the case of quality pastries from leading bakers, the establishments tend to advertise their origin.
